Mental Health Resolutions for the New Year

We've all done it...that's right, at some point in our lives we've all proposed to make changes to our unhealthy habits. These resolutions are commonly related to enhancing our physical health in some way, such as losing weight, quitting smoking, and reducing drinking. These goals, if attained can have enormous health benefits such as reducing risk of cancer, exending your longevity, and enhancing the quality of your life.

However, bolstering your physical health is only part of the overall picture; what typically doesn't make the resolution list are ways in which we can enhance our mental health. Given that mental and physical health are intimately intertwined, taking steps toward improving your mental health should not be overlooked.

A recent news article in TIME magazine ("7 Mental Health Resolutions for 2015") by Alexandra Sifferlin nicely summarizes this issue. Just like practicing dental hygiene, this article provides tips for us all to practice "emotional hygiene."
